Sounds easy, right? The important thing is that these steps are tied together by a well-written business plan. In the first step, you put your vision on paper. How big is the venue you want? How many tables? Is the decor upmarket or more working-class? What food and drinks will you sell? Do you want a full bar and kitchen?
Putting your vision on paper guides your research into start-up and operating costs (step 2). For example, an upscale social event hall may require a location in a trendy part of town with higher rents, compared to a family-oriented hall in a more commercial part of town. A hall that sells snacks and refreshments needs less capital to start than one that requires a full kitchen and bar. Both will also have very different sales projections and expenses.
Finally, you have to put it into action! You have to get down to business. Write up the plan, talk to bankers, commercial real estate agents and landlords, take bartending or business classes if you don’t have the necessary skills, do your research. And along the way, continue to update and adjust your business plan. If you take consistent action, I guarantee you will reach your goal of owning a pool hall business.
