With the release of macOS Sequoia, Apple turned its built-in password manager into a standalone app. It is not buried in the gadget’s settings and, in fact, is now much better, offering additional adjustments and lines.

If you happen to be a Mac user who has been using a third-party password manager like 1Password, it might make sense to switch to Apple’s native Password app. After all, it’s integrated the right way into macOS and it’s loose.

If you’re interested in migrating from 1Password or just want to see if Apple’s Password app is more for you, this information is for you. I’ll walk you through all the simple steps to move all your credentials from the 1Password app to the Passwords app on your Mac.

Step 1

First, go to the 1Password app, on the navigation bar, go to Document > Export and choose the shopper you want to export.

You will then be asked to enter your 1Password password again. Then choose CSV format, then click Export wisdomchoose a location where you want to save the report, then click Save.

Remember: This can sometimes most likely export all your usernames and passwords directly into a simple CSV document where all passwords are visible. Remember to delete and clean the trash once the migration is complete.

Now free the Passwords app, in the top navigation bar go to Document > Import passwords…

On the next computer screen, click “Choose Document” and then to find and choose the .csv previously exported document.

It will then begin importing all your credentials from 1Password. This may sometimes take a while, most likely 1-10 minutes, depending on the size of the document.

And once completed, it will show you a computer summary screen of which selection of passwords are imported and which do not appear to be imported and why.
