Description:

If any of these situations apply to you, then read more…

Have you ever looked at marimbas or xylophones in music stores and wondered…

“…How is it possible that these instruments cost so much?”

because after all… they are just wooden planks placed on a frame, with resonant tubes to amplify the sound.

Even schools prefer to spend it elsewhere…

That’s why I created this solution for you…

First, let me introduce myself.

My name is Jim McCarthy and I have been a percussionist for over 20 years.

I’ve always had a passion for building things, and over the years I’ve had a LOT to do with building and designing marimbas, especially for other people to build. However, I would never consider myself a professional carpenter or tradesman – I’ve always been a musician first and foremost.

And that means that if I can develop these projects, you can easily do it too. You don’t need to design, think, work hard or make mistakes. I’ve already done it all for you!

When I was studying for my Masters I became very interested in acoustics and learned all about how marimbas were built – I even made some huge, world record-breaking bass marimbas for my hobby…

But these days my goals are much more practical… I design instruments especially for people like you. I started years ago when I built some instruments to help my wife with her school music program. You may have seen the Project 1 Box Resonant Xylophone or the Project 2 Mini Marimba that are already being built by people all over the world to save money for their schools, as well as being interesting for kids to play and enjoy.

I have also built many other instruments throughout my career, from small xylophones to full-size bass marimbas. What I have done is refine my building processes to create step-by-step building guides for five instruments: the simple chime, the box xylophone, the two-octave minimarimba, the three-octave concert marimba, the three-octave concert vibraphone, and most recently, the five-octave professional concert marimba.

The nice thing about these projects is that they will work for you no matter what wood you have available; or in the case of the vibraphone and glockenspiel, they will work just fine with standard metal material, which is inexpensive and readily available in most parts of the world.

Concert-quality marimbas are typically made from Honduran rosewood or African padauk, and obviously the better the wood you have access to, the better instrument you can make. However, you can make these instruments from almost any hardwood (e.g. durian or meranti).

This depends on the instruments you are building and also where you live. However, all of these instruments are designed to use only inexpensive materials commonly found at any hardware store.

But here is a rough guide to the cost of materials for different instruments.

And if you want to make a better quality instrument, you can of course invest in a better quality wood, such as rosewood. It will cost you a few hundred dollars, but it will still be a lot less than buying a real concert instrument.

YES! All plans include both imperial (feet and inches) and metric (millimeters) measurements.

No way! I’m not a carpenter, I’m a musician. Most of the skills required are pretty basic in carpentry: measuring, cutting, and sanding.

Even if you’ve never picked up a hammer or saw in your life, I’m confident that you can make a working instrument with these plans. Of course, I’ve picked up a few tips during my time designing and building instruments, but I’ve included all the important building tips in the package for you.

Absolutely not! All the tools you will need are common household tools.

And some other things commonly found in the garage!

BUT… if you don’t have access to one, don’t worry, as I’ve included a full set of sine waves (clear, clean tones) that you can use to tune notes by ear. If you have a musical ear, it’s really easy to do it this way.

The short answer: Of course you can!

Of course, if you are saving extra money by using a cheaper wood for the bars, then you can’t expect them to sound like one of the traditional woods used for marimbas. And of course, the final sound will also depend on how carefully and accurately you make and tune your bars. BUT… particularly with the P524 or PV guide which are designed for fully professional instruments, ALL the information you need to make your marimba or vibraphone sound exactly like a commercial one, is included in your building guides.

The fact is that it makes very little difference!

Commercial instrument makers often TALK about the sounds of different resonator materials – they want their instruments to sound more special – BUT have you ever seen anyone publish an actual audio comparison?

And think about it… The job of the resonator is to amplify sound, and it does this by containing a column of air that is just the right size to resonate when sound waves from the bar enter it.

So… does the air column really care what it’s in? Or does it even know? Remember, it’s the air column that’s vibrating… not the container, so what it’s made of really matters very little.

And I’ve heard people say that certain materials are a little harder and reflect sound better than others. Well, that’s true… but here’s the thing…

Extra hard metals, etc., only make a difference at fairly high frequencies, the frequencies that are well above the vibraphone’s range. Only the higher harmonics of the vibraphone are in this frequency range, and guess what… these higher harmonics are actually tuned to NOT resonate in the tubes!

The plans included for this instrument use PVC pipe for the resonators because:

Also, you can get PVC pipes at almost any hardware store, as they are commonly used for drains in almost every home. Of course, if you really want to use different materials for your resonators, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. The construction guide tells you how to achieve the result you are looking for.

Absolutely not! You get instant access to the eBooks and videos via download, so you can get started right away. The plans print in Adobe Acrobat Reader (which almost all computers already have installed).

Of course, you see the value in getting all these instrument building plans, so I have a special offer for you…

The Total Building package contains:

The e-book guide to mallet making contains step-by-step instructions on how to make your own mallets for mallet percussion instruments.

You have FULL access to:

It took me almost ten years to develop the skills necessary to tune bars effectively and design instruments that worked, and this prototype is now my personal concert instrument. This is how I know these plans work.

Obviously I can’t build the instrument for you, and your success will be determined in part by your own efforts.

However, if you feel that my plans are flawed and do not work for you, simply contact Clickbank within 56 days for a full refund of the purchase price of these building guides, no questions asked. In fact, I insist! I do not want your money if you cannot successfully use them to make your own instruments.

And remember, you don’t even have to do it yourself… …you can easily give the plans to a keen woodworker to make as a project, or you can even use them as a school classroom project.

So… You won’t regret it and this will be an investment that could save you thousands of dollars!

See you on the next page!

PS: There are no tricks here, just real information that you won’t find anywhere else!

PPS This is definitely for you if you want a full range of professional mallet instruments and still have a budget to spare!

PPPS This is a small price to pay for a system that will save you thousands of dollars, so click here to get started.

The information products available on makeamarimba.com and buildavibraphone.com are designed to provide the user with all the information necessary to build corresponding instruments to the same standard and finish as the original prototypes shown on the websites. The final results produced by the end user are naturally dependent in part on his or her own skills and efforts. Some of the skills and techniques described in the building guides may require the end user to practice a little before achieving a high level of proficiency. This is an expected part of the building process. However, once these skills have been acquired, the end user, if exercising due care, should be able to build an instrument for significantly less cost than any equivalent commercial model.
